Synoptic Notebooks

As part of a CTI-funded project, I developed a set of Jupyter labs intended as companion labs for my dynamics course, but that are not part of the junior level synoptic meteorology course. The notebooks are intended to get students working with meteorological data, and to illustrate core ideas in dynamical and synoptic meteorology through visualizations of this data.

As an outgrowth of that work, I have worked with some students (most notably Jack Sillin who also contributed substantially to the notebooks) to generate animations of GFS forecast output. These are automatically updated every 6 hours from publicly available GFS analyses and forecasts.
